Cleve Area School Agriculture Course

Cleve Area School’s Agriculture Program is recognised for its excellence and for supporting senior students to successfully enter the agriculture industry at all levels.

Cleve Area School introduced a Certificate in Agriculture course in 1975, and in 1991 integrated with the South Australian Certificate in Education (SACE). The course has undergone constant development to maintain its focus as a specialist educator in dryland farming education, with an emphasis on minimum tillage and sustainable agriculture principles and practices.

Agriculture studies are offered from Year 7 through to Year 12, providing students with progressive learning experiences and opportunities to develop practical and theoretical knowledge in agricultural science, culminating in a deep understanding of agriculture.

• Years 7–10: Students engage in hands-on and theoretical learning, building foundational skills and knowledge in agricultural science and dryland farming practices.
• Year 11: Students may study Agriculture and Integrated Learning, exploring advanced concepts of production, sustainability, and practical agricultural applications.
• Year 12: Students may study Agricultural Production and Integrated Learning, with an emphasis on industry skills, contemporary farming practices, and preparation for careers or further training in agriculture.
• Students are also able to undertake a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship in agriculture or rural operations, further enhancing their practical experience and career readiness.

Students are encouraged to become innovative, responsible, and collaborative members of the agricultural industry and wider community.
